Dana Point Harbor, CA Contract with New Cellular-Style Base

Wireless Solutions, Inc., an emerging leader in the wireless
broadband industry and a wholly-owned portfolio company of 5G

announced today that Cedarville University in Cedarville, OH has
selected its Campus-Wide Area Networking™ (C-WAN) equipment package
to provide integrated wireless networking both indoors and out.
“Cedarville will be the first university in
the eastern U.S. to adopt our technology,” stated Jerry Dix, 5G
Wireless Communications CEO. “For such a prestigious and
sophisticated institution to have selected us over the competition
is high praise. Our ’outside/in.’ rooftop Base Stations had to go
through a rigorous testing process to win this business, and we’re
confident that our cellular approach to Wi-Fi is the best solution
for this campus.
After a thorough competitive evaluation
process, the contract was awarded to 5G based upon its ability to
provide nearly 100% coverage utilizing only two cellular-style,
sectorized Base Stations. Other solutions would have required close
to 100 individual Access Points, adding not only to initial capital
equipment costs, but, more importantly, to ongoing operational
expenses associated with administration and maintenance. An
efficient and elegant solution, coupled with one of the lowest Total
Cost of Ownership (TCO) per sq. acre measures in the business, has
become a hallmark of the 5G approach.
The 175 acre campus is home to over 3000
students and 280 faculty members. Cedarville is a nationally
acclaimed Christian university located in southwestern Ohio, and was
recently ranked in the top tier of regional colleges for the fourth
consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report. The University has had
a longstanding commitment to superior campus-wide networking
technology, and is a recipient of the CAUSE Networking Award,
bestowed by the international Educause educational technology
association, in recognition of integration of networking technology
into the instructional program of a college or university. Based on
a philosophy of making information ubiquitous, computers are
available in every residence hall room and office. The underlying
network, known as CedarNet, has been operational since 1992 through
a partnership with IBM.
Campus usage studies have shown that over 95%
of the faculty and student body use the network every day. Students
and faculty have access to over 150 software choices via CedarNet,
ranging from general packages like Microsoft Word to specific
applications like human anatomy. Students, faculty, and staff use
the CedarInfo section of CedarNet about 5,000 times a day for
routine operations like registering for classes, checking grades,
and signing up for payroll direct deposit. One of the most popular
areas of CedarNet is the
resources section, where students can access the library's
on-line catalog, full-text newspapers and journals, periodical
indexes, and application-specific databases.
The installation was sourced and is being
managed by Springnet, a Dayton, Ohio-based WISP (Wireless Internet
Service Provider), one of 5G’s regional channel marketing partners.
